You Decide.

Writer: Wake and DistrictWake and District

Inspired by Mel Robbins’ “The Let Them Theory”

“No matter what happens around you, you decide how it will affect you.” That truth hits home for anyone who’s ever worn a kilt, slung a drum, or played a tune with purpose.

In a pipe and drum band like Wake and District, setbacks happen. Comments from judges, mistakes in a medley, missed opportunities—they’re part of the process. But they don’t define us. What defines us is how we choose to respond.

You decide if critique crushes your confidence or sharpens your focus.

You decide if a tough contest season makes you quit—or makes you train harder.

You decide if another band’s success discourages you or inspires you to rise.

In this band, we’ve walked through storms together. Some seasons tested our patience and unity. But we’ve emerged more intentional, more grounded, more committed. We’re not just a group of pipers and drummers. We’re a band bound by values—integrity, discipline, and respect.

This year, we are choosing to own every note we play and every challenge we face. Because it’s that simple: we have the power.
