This Memorial Day, there will be backyard barbecues, playing at swimming pools and beaches, and special sales at department stores. Some Americans will remember what the day means, but many will not. However, to those veterans who endured freedom’s costly price, the day will be one of remembrance of brave Americans who gave up their dreams, comfort and even their lives in the name of freedom.
To all those who served and sacrificed, we remember you. We remember your selflessness, valor and compassion, to give what could not be purchased to those who could never repay you.
Throughout our history, American blood has fallen on foreign shores, not for gain of property for the United States, but so that the blessing of freedom could be attained for those who otherwise would not have it. No nation in history has offered so many of its best for the gift of freedom, the realization of which has led many to live out Jesus’ adage, “Greater love hath no man than this, to lay down his life for his friends.”
From Normandy to the Pacific, Korea and Vietnam; from Lebanon to Mogadishu, to Iraq and Afghanistan, may God bless our American heroes who have given all and stood in defense of those who could not stand alone.
