In our band, we have high demands of members. Every note, every step, every detail matters. But as we push ourselves and each other to meet those demands, it's essential to remember one thing: nothing that is said or done in rehearsal is personal.
When you step into a rehearsal with Wake and District, you are stepping into a space where excellence is not just encouraged—it’s expected. Our musical leaders—people like Ken, Adrian, Paul. Fisher and so many more are committed to bringing out the best in every member of this band. They will move heaven and earth to help those who are trying, who are giving their all, and who are dedicated to improving.
However, we know sometimes the message can come across the wrong way. In the heat of the moment, when we’re all striving for perfection, it’s easy for feedback to feel sharp or overly critical. But please understand the intent is never to be personal. Our leaders aren't here to single anyone out; they’re here to lift everyone up. The goal is always to make us all better—individually and as a band.
Critique, corrections, and even the occasional tough love are part of the process. These moments are not about tearing anyone down but about building everyone up. It’s about refining our collective sound, ensuring our timing is impeccable, and making sure, as a band, we are as strong as we can be.
When a leader stops to correct you, it’s a sign of their belief in your potential. They see what you can achieve, and they are committed to helping you get there. But we acknowledge in the moment, it can sometimes feel intense. We’re all human, and we all have our moments of frustration or doubt. But know our leaders are working with you, not against you. They recognize the effort you put in, and they are here to guide you, encourage you, and ensure together, we rise to every challenge.
So, when you hear a critique which stings a bit, take a breath and remember it’s coming from a place of wanting to make us all better. Nothing is personal—it’s all about pushing past our limits so when it matters most, we can perform with confidence and pride.
Let’s keep working hard, listening to our leaders, and supporting each other on this journey. Together, we are Wake and District, and together, we stand for our fallen.
