We’re excited to share some local news, courtesy of an article from The Laurinburg Exchange, showcasing the latest addition to Laurinburg’s growing collection of murals. This vibrant new piece highlights the rich diversity of the Scotland County community, and it features a striking image that looks oddly familiar to us at Wake and District—bagpipers who could easily be mistaken for some of our own!
We want to give a special shoutout to Bill Caudill for pointing this out to us. Bill, among many hats, is the Founder and Chairman of the Scotland County Highland Games and a key figure in promoting Scottish culture in the area. His sharp eye caught the uncanny resemblance between the pipers in the mural and some of our very own Wake and District members. We have to admit, it does make you do a double take!
It’s heartening to see the symbols of Scottish heritage and music represented so prominently in public art, especially in a place that holds special meaning for us. Scotland County and the Laurinburg community have long supported the pipe band tradition, and the mural is another testament to that connection.
As we prepare for our next trip to the Scotland County Highland Games in October, this mural serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted ties between our music, our community, and the culture that inspires us all.
Thanks again to Bill Caudill for the heads-up and for all the work he does in celebrating and preserving our shared heritage!
