On Wednesday, April 6, 2011 Veterans of World War II and other wars flew from Raleigh to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built for their service. This oppurtunity was made in part thanks to the nonprofit group Triangle Flight of Honor. Among the 100 local veterans honored are a Pearl Harbor survivor, two Silver Star winners, two veterans of WWII and the Korean and Vietnam wars, and a set of three brothers from Johnston County who served in the South Pacific.
To those band members who came out tonight to play for the Flight of Honor – on behalf of the Veterans, their families, friends and all those we we had the privilege to play for tonight – THANK YOU. While you could barely hear the pipes and drums over the wall of applause for those humble few – know we made a difference in their homecoming tonight.
