What is a challenge coin you ask? A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion (usually military), bearing an organization’s insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected by service members. In practice, challenge coins are normally presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They are also exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.
Police and fire departments have embraced the concept and have found coins to be an excellent means of team building and creating a sense of brotherhood or belonging.
Many pipe and drum bands (like the lads from the New York Metro Pipe Band) also have coins for sale – so be sure to give their website a visit and purchase one of their coins >> HERE.
Fun Fact: If you have a coin you can challenge someone from within our ranks to produce their coin. If they don’t have it they buy you a drink. If they produce it you have to buy them a drink.
