Another Wake & District weekend – this time in Scotland County, North Carolina for the 4th Annual Scotland County Highland Games orchestrated by the Pipe Major of the St. Andrews University Pipe Band <;<; Bill Caudill (pictured to the left with our very own Seamus Russell)… The morning started with solos including Jean Russell sweeping her class in tenor drumming and Jacob Egen doing the same in snare (kudos to Megan Baker and Chris mOg for playing for the drummers). Also represented on the solo boards were Seamus Russell and Garrett Justice who had strong showings; there is nothing easy about solo endeavors and the band is ever proud of their hard work. Our Grade 5 players took to the field under the direction of Sean O’Neil and Patrick O’Leary and placed 3rd. In the words of Sandy Jones (one of the piping judges) …best band, but not the best performance…

The Grade 4 players took to the field under the direction of Steve Fisher and Jacob Egen and had a strong and fun run of our medley. This was the first time this season we played the medley >;>; and without our pipe major (Ken McKeveny) who could not be with us. A video take by Alan Armstrong of this competition can be seen on the band’s Facebook page here. As always a slew of photos from the day are making their way to Facebook.

As always – thank you to all of the band members for your hard work and tenacity. And to all of our family and friends, we are ever so grateful for your kindness in supporting all we do to get to the line. Congrats to band members who celebrated some events this weekend as well – Paul Davis turning 50, Seamus Russell crossing a number somewhere in his 30s – and a double digit wedding anniversary for Mark and Suzanne Justice.

The season ends in 2 weeks time when we play at the Stone Mountain Highland Games. On we go…
