  • WRAL Balloon Festival (day 1)
    Starts: 4:00 pm
    Ends: May 23, 2015 - 6:30 pm
Location: 4302 Spring Forest Road, 27616
Description: This is the latest update on the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest. (Scroll down a bit.) I'd suggest that you all your participants sign up on-line so you'll receive updates between now and then. We are really looking forward to the pipes and drums being part of the ceremonies and are sharpening the logistics and run of show. We are a tiny group of key organizers so I appreciate your patience.

The ceremonies will take place between 5:00 and 6:00 pm each evening. We ask that your group be assembled on-site no later than 4:30 pm,

on Saturday, May 23, at Raleigh's Spring Forest Road Park, 4302 Spring Forest Road, 27616

and again on Sunday, May 24 at the Bennett Bunn Plantation, 1915 Old Bunn Road, Zebulon, NC 27597.

At 5:00, I anticipate brief welcoming announcements, a twenty minute performance by your group, marching into place, followed by recognitions of dignitaries and sponsors, presentation of colors by an honor guard, the National Anthem by another performer or recorded, and ten minutes more of music from your group as a send off to the "Glow" part of the evening. Please advise if this is a reasonable performance expectation. A combination of solemnity ending in high spirits is what we have in mind.

On-site parking in each location is severely limited so we ask that you carpool and otherwise limit the number of vehicles you'll need to park. Please let me know how many and who to put on our Parking Entry List for Ceremony Participants. We'll be delighted to have your friends and families come as well but must ask that they use the free off-site parking at Raleigh's Triangle Town Center with shuttles provided by GoRaleigh buses or Zebulon's Five County Stadium, for a $10 charge per car to benefit the JayCees, also with shuttles.

I would like to have a cell phone number for you and others who may take a lead role with your group in case of last minute needs. Also, please advise exactly on the formal name of the group and its leader(s) so they can be recognized accurately.

A flier appears below that can be pasted into invitations for colleagues and friends for their distribution as well. We hope everyone will come out, welcome and enjoy this very large-scale, uplifting event.
