Saturday, 19 May 2012 was a long day for members of Wake & District who drove 6 hours North to Maryland to compete for the first time at the 52nd Annual Colonial Highland Gathering. Overall our Grade 5 group placed 4th out of 10 – and our Grade 4 group placed 7th out 13 (placing 4th in ensemble) . The season is young and we are doing a lot of things better – looking forward to the road ahead.
A couple of shout outs to solo players Seamus Russell for a 3rd in G3 March and Jean Russell for a 3rd in tenor drumming! Fair Hill was also the first time on the boards for piper Garrett Justice who had a good outing for his first time out in G4 solos.
Thank you to all the members of Wake & District who made the extended journey North – and to all of our family and friends who came out to support our efforts.
Congratulations to all the bands who came out to Fair Hill for a brilliant day of competition and to David Bailiff for putting on day full of camaraderie among pipe bands. This was our first trip up from North Carolina…and it will not be our last (next time we won’t drive there and back in 1 day).
22 hours for 3 minutes on the field…we love what we do.
