On behalf of the members of the Wake & District Public Safety Pipes and Drums we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Trooper  Bobby G. Demuth, of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol who was killed in the line of duty on 08 September 2012.  Trooper Demuth was stationed out of Nash County and was killed while trying to stop high-speed chase out of Raleigh.  At 7:44am, Raleigh Police said they tried to stop a 1995 Nissan 200SX on US64 East near Hodge Road. The driver, identified as Christopher McCoy Rodgers of Williamston, NC failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit. The chase traveled from Wake County into Nash County where troopers attempted to deploy stop sticks.

Trooper Demuth was struck and fatally injured.  The Highway Patrol said Rodgers continued on a short distance before his vehicle was stopped and he was taken into custody.Raleigh Police said Rodgers was wanted on burglary, robbery, and kidnapping charges from an incident Friday night.
