In March of 2008 our band chaplain, Paul Ormond – was called back to serve our Country. Paul is a Captain (Chaplain) in United States Army and is serving at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He has not forsaken his bagpipes and has been honoring Fort Stewart soldiers who have been killed in the war on terror. The photos below are from a memorial ceremony for SPC Kyle Norris of 3-7 Infantry Battalion who was killed by an IED when his guntruck was hit. The woman being escorted down the walkway is his mother. There are trees planted at Fort Stewart for each of the fallen soldiers (Eastern Redbud trees), these trees bloom in April which corresponds to the time of year when the 3rd Infantry Division crossed into Iraq for the initial invasion; there are currently over 400 trees planted at Fort Stewart for soldiers of 3ID. The band looks forward to Paul’s safe return and we are very proud of his service to our Country and to his fellow soldiers and their families.
