On Tuesday, April 14th Lloyd Johnson was asked on behalf of the band to do a show and tell program for a class of preschoolers at the Governor Morehead School of the Blind. This event was one way that they band could reach out to our community and fullfil part of our Mission Statement. Lloyd put on an outstanding performance for the kids by both playing his pipes and his diggeridoo.
All of the children at this school are between being legally blind and completely blind. With this in mind special attention was paid by Lloyd to the kids so that they could feel the different parts of our uniform and our musical equipment. From speaking with Lloyd and Ms.Fox who is the teacher, the favorite part of the morning for the kids was being able to feel the different vibrations and listening to the sounds of the diggeridoo being played.
This is another great example of how we can reach out to our community, educate people on both the band and the history of Scottish/Irish bagpipe music, and most importantly bring smiles to children’s faces.
