Retired Chief Gary Ragland from the Clayton Police Department passed away on 02 August 2009. For those who did not know Chief Ragland – he was instrumental in the creation of the Carolina Pipes and Drums – which became the Wake & District Public Safety Pipes and Drums. Chief Ragland retired from Clayton in 2006 and served as a former State Bureau of Investigation agent, former High Point police officer, and former chairman of the Police Science Department at Johnston Community College. Chief Ragland was also a bagpiper who warmly welcomed our Pipe Major to the old North State by providing him with a job with the Clayton Police. You will be missed dearly Chief Ragland.
