Home / Band News / Captain Jon Schondelmayer – at rest

On Monday, 23 December 2013 members of Wake and District were privileged to participate in the honors funeral service for Cary Fire Department Captain Jon Schondelmayer who died in the line of duty last week after falling ill while working with the Swift Creek Fire Department.  “He brought a lot of leadership to the Cary Fire Department,” said Cary Fire Chief Loren Cone. “He was loved and honored and respected by everybody he worked with. This is a tragic loss for all of us — the entire community around Cary.”

The funeral services were attended by over 600  – a strong sea of blue honoring a fallen brother.  Members of Wake and District proudly played side by side with our comrades from the Asheville Fire Department Pipe Band, Morrisville Fire Department Pipe Band and Cary Fire Department Pipe Band.  The skirl of the pipes and slow beat of the drum sounded our brother home.

Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.
