On behalf of the members of the Wake & District Public Safety Pipes and Drums, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Chicago Fire Department Captain Herbert “Herbie” Johnson who died in the line of duty while fighting fire on Friday, 02 November 2012. Captain Johnson was 54 and had 32 years with the Chicago Fire Department. He was promoted to Captain a few short months ago.
As a new Captain he was on a detail to Engine 123 and Tower Ladder 39 at 2215 West 51st Street in Chicago. He was one many Chicago Firefighters who went to New York City after 9/11 and was an instructor at the Chicago Fire Department Academy.
On Saturday, 03 November 2012 Wake & District ended our Fall Fling performance dedicating Amazing Grace in honor of Captain Johnson. We take solace knowing firefighters never die, they live on forever in the hearts and souls of the people whose lives they touched.
While we did not know you personally Captain Johnson – you touched our souls. 3-3-5.
