Like many public safety bands, the Wake & District Public Safety Pipes & Drums were patterned in part after the well-known “Black Watch” regiment (the 42nd Highland Light Infantry). Although the Black Watch evolved to a modern-day military unit, they were Scotland’s first duly-constituted public safety organization. As part of our tradition, we aimed to preserve that connection which extends over 2,000 miles and nearly 300 years part in part by deporting with the cap-badge of the Black Watch.
In 2011 (during our 5 year celebration) the band commissioned Jeff Robertson at Caledonia Fine Arts to produce a custom badge for the band. The quality, hand crafted design is patterned in tradition with the regiments of Scotland – taking its primary design from the new Royal Regiment of Scotland logo. The staff at Caledonia Fine Arts produced a unique design which will shine for years to come.
The band is excited to mark our 5 year anniversary with our very own cap-badge produced in partnership with Caledonia Fine Arts.
