Many thanks to the small contingent from the District who came out to support the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation during the last day of the 2008 North Carolina State Fair. Kudos to Mike Bishop for filling in on bass drum. The group played a few tunes, had a few deep fried Snickers bars and had a good time. The band’s photographer (Véronique McMillan) was on hand to grab a couple of photos – check them out from the link below, along with photos from the Mogenson Clan:
Congratulations all the way around for competing members of the Wake & District Pipe Band. On October 25th a large contingency of the band traveled to Richmond, VA for the Fourteenth Annual Richmond Highland Games & Celtic Festival where it was wet and windy…here are the results: Grade 4 solo drumming – 1st Place, Nyssa Cave; Grade 3 solo drumming – 1st Place, Sterling Cave; Grade 2 Piobreachd – 1st place, Alan Armstrong – and the winner of the Grade 3 solo piping (taking three 1st place medals) and piper of the day, Josh Hinton (son of band member Warren Hinson). To finish the season the band placed 3rd in pipe and drum competition!
THANKS to all the band members who came out Sunday, October 12th for the Fairview Fire Department open house. Chief Brinson and the fire fighters at Fairview have been very gracious to the band (allowing us to hold practices at the house) and the band was happy to return the favor by coming out to support their open house.
With eight of the members of the band in Emmitsburg, Maryland – another contingent of 13 traveled to Selma, NC to once again participate in the Railroad Days Parade. Thanks to all the band members for making an appearance and to some friends from Germany who came out to cheer. Thanks Sam. Photos from the parade as taken by our very own Véronique McMillan can be seen here
Eight members of the District traveled to Emmitsburg, Maryland for the National Fire Fighters Memorial weekend. This was the first time the band was represented at this event and we were truly humbled to participate in the services honoring our fallen fire service comrades; we saw some old faces and made some new friends. Below are just a few photos from the event featuring band members (additional photos can be seen here>> http://www.flickr.com/photos/mchapman0636/sets/72157607898468381/ ).
